the FIRST THINK TANK OUTSIDE OF THE Western Balkans, EXCLUSIVELY DEDICATED TO SUSTAINABLE DEVELOPMENT OF THE REGION

Bringing new perspectives to bridge knowledge and policy

Comprising experts in Pluralist Economics, we promote policies and practices that support economic stability, environmental sustainability, and social inclusion. Through rigorous research, strategic partnerships, and advocacy, we aim to influence both regional and international decision-making processes, ensuring that the Western Balkans can thrive in a global context.

Puting sustainability in the center and bringing new topics to the table

Number of Think Tanks are in a slow decline in the last decade. Most  were established in the periods between 1990–1999 (23%) and 2000–2009 (24%) and today big majority of them writes about peace and security, trade or technology. There is an obvious lack of new fresh thoughts and topics.

At ISED we bring together regional independent experts whose voices can not be heard otherwise and international experts to foster multidisciplinary collaboration and promote pluralist viewpoints.

By leveraging our unique blend of regional insight and international expertise, we aim to drive impactful change by providing a platform for Pluralist Ideas and perspectives to connect diverse stakeholders, offering opportunities for youth and underrepresented groups to collaborate.

LACK OF RESEARCH ABOUT WESTERN BALKANS

Eastern Europe and especially Western Balkan region has a lack of Think Tanks and organizations independent from local government doing research and new policy suggestions. Most of the existing Think Tanks are focused on trade, governance, political security, and the path towards EU membership.

What is Pluralist Economics?

The pluralism in economics is a movement to change the teaching and research in economics towards more openness in its approaches, topics and standpoints. Critics of mainstream economics have called for a reform of the discipline in the past. The movement for pluralism can therefore be traced to wider movements for progressive change in the 1960s and 1970s and provides alternative explanations and understandings, directly challenging the conceptualizations, models, methods, values, topics.

All ISED Founders are experts in Pluralist Economics and the organization work emphasizes topics that are less researched.

FEMALE LEADERSHIP

According to the Open Think Tank network, only one-third of think thanks has at least one founder.

At ISED-wb we are dedicated to empowering women and 83% of our leaders are women, experts in heterodox economics.
